MSHS seniors Anna Grzelak (cross country, alpine skiing)Â and Colin VanderSchaaf (cross country, swim & dive, track & field) have been named as the recipients of the First Bank Outstanding Scholar-Athletes for the 2022-23 academic year.

Selection criteria for the First Bank Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award are:
- Academic excellence based on cumulative GPA, academic honors received and class standing.
- Athletic performance and accolades with students having earned a minimum of four varsity letters. In addition, honorees must have earned varsity letters in at least two sports.
- Extracurricular involvement in MSHS clubs/organizations as well as a demonstrated commitment to community service.
Anna Grzelak has participated in the MSHS Girls Cross Country and Girls Alpine Skiing programs. She holds a 4.31 cumulative GPA.

- 2023 MHSAA Division 1 State Finals – 3rd Place Slalom
- 2023 MHSAA Division 1 Regional Champion – Slalom
- 2023 MHSAA Division 1 Regional Runner-Up – Giant Slalom
- 2023 U.P. Girls Alpine Skier of the Year
- 2023 All-State and All-U.P. Team Honoree
- 2-Time Academic All-State Award Recipient from the Michigan High School Ski Coaches Association (MHSSCA)
- Team member on the 2020 MHSAA State Championship Team and 2021 MHSAA State Runner-Up Team.
- Post-Graduation Plans:Â Attend the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor to pursue a nursing degree with the hopes of becoming a nurse anesthetist.
Colin VanderSchaaf has participated in the MSHS Cross Country, Swimming & Diving and Track & Field programs. He owns a cumulative GPA of 4.28.

- Member of school, pool and U.P. record holding 200 Free Relay Team (2022; 1:29.93)

- 2-Time All-State and Academic All-State (2022, 2021)
- 3-Time MHSAA U.P. Champion (2 Individual, 1 Relay)
- 6-Time MHSAA Regional Champion (3 Individual, 3 Relay)
- 3-Time Great Northern Conference Champion
- Team member for MHSAA U.P. Finals Championships in 2021 and 2022
- Post-Graduation Plans:  Colin recently signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend and compete as part of the men’s cross country and men’s track & field programs at Grand Valley State University. He plans to major in Biology.
