Olivia Moffitt and Hogan Nemetz Named October Student-Athletes of the Month

Marquette Senior High School, along with Superiorland Kiwanis, are proud to announce that Olivia Moffitt (girls cross country) and Hogan Nemetz (boys cross country) have been selected as the Student-Athletes of the Month for October.

Olivia Moffitt is a junior at MSHS and participated as a member of the girls cross country team this fall.

Throughout the 2019 cross country season, Olivia demonstrated tremendous improvement and toughness that ultimately earned her a place on the All-U.P. “Dream Team” as a result of her 6th Place finish in the Division 1 Girls Race at U.P. Finals.  In addition, she was also the runner-up at the Great Northern Conference Meet.  These performances helped the MSHS Girls Varsity Cross Country Team come away with both U.P. Division 1 and GNC championships.  Aside from earning All-U.P. “Dream Team” honors, Olivia was named as the team’s “Most Valuable Runner” and also earned All-State, Academic All-State and All-GNC accolades.

Academically, Olivia owns a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA.  She has been named to the honor roll for each semester and is a member of the MSHS National Honor Society.

During the summer months, Olivia participates as part of the Upper Peninsula Community Rowing Club (UPCRC).  She also volunteers time assisting with the operation of the Costa Rican Exchange Program at MSHS.  Outside of school, Olivia enjoys baking, art projects, running, biking, swimming, being with animals, road trips and house plants.

While Olivia’s post-high school plans are still undecided for the most part, she is considering pursuing a career as a veterinarian.

Hogan Nemetz is a senior at MSHS and just wrapped up his final season as a member of the Boys Cross Country Team.  He is a four-year varsity letter winner for the cross country program.

In his senior season, Hogan again showed great determination and progress throughout the year with consistent improvement in his race performances.  He placed 7th in this year’s Division 1 Boys Race at U.P. Finals and led the team to it’s first U.P. Championship since 2014.  Hogan’s finish at U.P. Finals, along with his 5th Place result at the Great Northern Conference (GNC) meet, earned him places on the All-State, Academic All-State, All-U.P. and All-GNC teams.  In addition, Hogan was named as the “Most Valuable Runner” within the boys cross country program for the 2019 season.

Hogan is a multi-sport student-athlete at MSHS and will keep busy throughout the remainder of his senior year by participating on the Redmen Varsity Hockey, MSHS Boys Track & Field and American Legion Blues Baseball teams.

Academically, Hogan has a 3.71 GPA and is a regular member of the honor roll.  He is also a member of the National Honor Society and has volunteered time assisting with the Marquette Marathon.

Upon graduation, Hogan is planning to continue his education at Michigan Tech University and pursue a degree in computer science.
