2023-24 Athletics Pay-to-Participate Policy

District-Funded Sports:

Cross Country, Football, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Varsity Hockey, Alpine Ski, Swim & Dive, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Sideline Cheer, Dance Team, Golf, Track & Field

Self-Funded Sports:

Soccer, Mountain Biking, Bowling, Competitive Cheer, Nordic Ski, Figure Skating, Softball, Baseball

  1. Each Pay to Participate fee is due and payable IN FULL on the FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE or TRYOUTS. Athletes are considered ineligible until the fee is received by the coach or athletic department.
  2. In the event that an athlete does not make a team roster, checks will be returned.
  3. For all District-Funded sports, MSHS will follow the Federal Guidelines for Free or Reduced Hot Lunch.   If your student has qualified for FREE lunch status when the season begins, there will be no participation fee.  If your student has qualified for REDUCED lunch status when the season begins, the fee will be reduced by 50%.  All transactions will be confidential. You must fill out a Fee Waiver Request Form to be eligible for a waiver.  Click here for the 2023-24 Pay-to-Play Fee Waiver Form.
  4. PLEASE COMPLETE THE ONLINE REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT PROCESS AT THIS LINK
  5. A full refund will be granted up to the first contest. A 50% refund will be given up to one (1) month from the beginning of the sport season (see schedule) for: a) moving out of district; b) season-ending sports injuries or medical reasons with a physician’s note. c) extenuating circumstances (determined by Coach, Athletic Director, and High School Principal). Refunds will NOT be granted for academic ineligibility, quitting the team, or disciplinary action affecting team participation or membership.
  6. Scholarship donations by individuals, organizations, and businesses are GREATLY appreciated. Please make checks payable to “MSHS ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS” and forward to the Athletic Office at the following address: MSHS Athletics, 1203 West Fair Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855

  7. A $800 per-family cap has been approved by the school board for participation in district-funded sports. If your family has exceeded, please notify the Athletic Office.  Please note that any pay-to-participate fee for self-funded teams WILL NOT count toward the MSHS family cap.

  8. Please call the Athletic Office (225-4220) or submit an e-mail (athletics@mapsnet.org) with any questions you may have or to request a scholarship or refund.
