Varsity Baseball Starts Season With Doubleheader Sweep At Menominee

The MSHS Varsity Baseball team (2-0; 2-0 Great Northern Conference) traveled to Menominee on Saturday afternoon (4/15/23) for a doubleheader to begin the 2023 season.

Game 1 Marquette 15, Menominee 1

  • MSHS used nine second inning runs to defeat Menominee in the day’s first game by a final margin of 15-1.
  • Marquette’s offensive firepower was generated by Jake Toyras, Issac Sarles, Nick Pantti, Luke Mead, Toyras, and Logan Peterson, who all sent runners across the plate with RBIs.
  • Sarles led things off on the mound for MSHS and lasted five innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out nine and walking one.
  • Marquette tallied six total hits in the game.  Sarles and Peterson each earned two hits to lead the team.
  • Dallas Cobe had two of the team’s seven stolen bases in the contest.

Game 2 Marquette 14, Menominee 9

  • Peyton Davis drove in five runs on three hits to lead MSHS two a 14-9 win over Menominee in game two.  He drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the second, and a single in the fourth.
  • After allowing seven runs in the first inning, Marquette responded with six runs in the second to take the lead for good.
  • Logan Peterson earned the win for MSHS.  He surrendered seven runs on five hits over three innings, striking out four.  Dallas Cobe threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
  • Marquette totaled 11 hits in the game with Davis, Easton Miller, and Issac Sarles each racked up multiple hits for MSHS.
  • Chase Niemi contributed four stolen bases in the contest.

  • The Varsity Baseball Team will be back in action on Wednesday (4/19/23) when they travel to Manistique for a doubleheader starting at 4:00 p.m.
