Varsity Boys Soccer Comes Back From Two Goals Down To Defeat Gaylord, 4-3

Varsity Boys Soccer (4-0)

Marquette 4, Gaylord 3

Max Dawson (#25) scores one of his 10 goals over the weekend – this one vs Gaylord. He also finished with two assists.

On Saturday, 8/21/21, the MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer team continued its weekend road trip by traveling to Gaylord for a head-to-head matchup with an exciting finish.

Gaylord opened up the scoring two minutes in off a free kick.  Max Dawson then evened the score on a break away which was passed to him from Nick Lindberg.  Gaylord then put the pressure on MSHS by putting up two more goals before the half for a 3-1 lead at the break.

Eight minutes into the second half Ezra Pickard pulled MSHS to within a one goal differential off of another Lindberg assist.  With 17 minutes to go, senior Hayden Byma converted a penalty kick to tie the game up at three goals apiece.  Then, with one minute to go in the contest, Dawson again scored on a break away from a Lindberg pass, marking his third assist of the game.

Harrison Anthos tended net for Marquette and faced 11 shots.

From MSHS Head Coach, Dan Salmon:

  • “To come away from this weekend at 4-0 is an impressive start.  The boys really fought hard on Friday in 90° heat with three games in a row.  Even with that, I was most proud of their effort against Gaylord.  Coming back from two goals down and winning at the end showed a lot of heart.  We grew tremendously as a team in the last 20 minutes of the game.  Max Dawson really stepped it up with 10 goals over the weekend and just as impressive was a Nick Lindberg with seven assists and a goal.”
