Varsity Boys Soccer Defeats Gaylord To Stretch Unbeaten Streak To 10 Games

MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer (11-2-1)

Marquette 3, Gaylord 2

The MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer team concluded their weekend road trip on Sunday, 9/11/22, when they took on Gaylord High School.  After a hard fought contest, Marquette secured a 3–2 come from behind victory.  The win stretches the team’s unbeaten streak to 10 games.

Gaylord opened the scoring at the 12-minute mark to take an early 1-0 advantage.

Cody Struck brought MSHS level with the hosts when he put in a rebound off of an Ezra Pickard shot.

Gaylord capitalized on a penalty kick taken at the 30-minute mark for a 2-1 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Max Dawson was able to again tie the game with a goal assisted by Pickard. That combo hooked up again with roughly 10 minutes to go in the game to secure the victory.

Goalkeeper Edan Hautamaki faced eight shots in the first half and six in the second half.

From MSHS Head Coach, Dan Salmon:

  • “It was a great game and we really had some players step up off the bench. We were down three defensive starters and the team rallied without them. Alexi Caron, Dixon Poggi, and Will Salo were big contributors in the game.”
