Varsity Boys Soccer Defeats Iron Mountain, 8-1

MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer (7-2-1)

Marquette 8, Iron Mountain 1

Marquette opened the contest with three goals in the first seven minutes. Max Dawson opened the scoring on a goal assisted by Evan SyskoIsaac Johnson then made the score 2-0 off a pass from Dawson.  Shortly thereafter, Dawson added an unassisted goal for a quick 3-0 MSHS lead.  While Iron Mountain’s Will Fairchild cut the lead to 3-1 at the 25-minute mark, Ezra Pickard scored with five minutes remaining in the first half (Dawson assist) for a 4-1 halftime lead.

In the second half, Kaleb Chipelewski scored from a Jack Sysko pass.  Dawson then completed his hat trick on a tally assisted by PickardAlexi Caron made the score 7-1 in favor of MSHS when he converted a free kick from 47 yards out.  Evan Sysko finished the scoring with an assist going to Noah Bell.

MSHS goalkeeper Edan Hautamaki faced 4 shots in the first half and 2 in the second half for 6 total saves in the game.

  • “In a game like this, we were able to get contributions from up and down our bench. Our captain leadership of Dawson, Evan Sysko, and Pickard shined through. Matt Barsch had a great game defensively.”

  • The Varsity Boys Soccer team will return to play on Tuesday, September 6, when they host Kingsford in a game beginning at 5:00 p.m. from the Kaufman Sports Complex.
