Varsity Boys Soccer Extends Win Streak To Five; Defeats Kingsford 5-0

The Kingsford Flivvers traveled to Marquette on Thursday evening for the third match-up of the year between the two teams.  After taking the first two games by identical 6-0 margins, MSHS again dominated this contest and pulled away for a 5-0 win.

Senior Connor Johnson got the scoring started off of an Ezra Pickard (sophomore) pass.  Junior defenseman Cam Larson then put MSHS up 2-0 off a corner kick from fellow junior John Weber.

Later, junior Nick Lindberg notched back-to-back goals just minutes apart to put Marquette up 4-0.  The first was assisted by junior Michael Poggi and the second one by Weber.  Freshman Ethan Sandstrom put the fifth goal of the first half in off an assist by Johnson.

Senior Liam Jeevar faced one shot in the net in the first half while junior Harrison Anthos faced three shots in the second half, including a big stop on a breakaway shot to help preserve the shutout.

“Even with a 5-0 win, we have things to improve on.  We had a lot of chances to put the ball in the net and came up short.”

The Varsity Boys Soccer Team will finish up the regular season series with Kingsford when they go on the road to take on the Flivvers on Thursday, September 24.  That game will be feature a 6:00 p.m. EST kickoff time.
