Marquette 5, Traverse City Central 1

The MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer team traveled to Traverse City on Saturday, 9/10/22, for their first game of a weekend road trip and came away with a 5-1 victory over hosts Traverse City Central.

After a hard fought first half that remained scoreless, Ethan Sandstrom was able to get Marquette on the board when he headed the ball in off of a pass from Mason Bocklund.

TC Central tied the game up moments later on a corner kick.

Max Dawson then put Marquette back on top for good when he converted a penalty kick at the 10-minute mark.  At the 20-minute mark of the second half, Dawson scored his second goal off a Ezra Pickard pass.

Evan Sysko then extended the lead to 4-1 in favor of MSHS with a bicycle kick goal scored from a corner kick assist by Dawson.

Dawson finished the scoring in the game when he completed the hat trick on a goal assisted by Kaleb Chipelewski.

Goaltender Edan Hautamaki faced two shots in the first half and eight in the second half.

From MSHS Head Coach, Dan Salmon:

  • “Our defense did a great job tonight holding them to one goal.  Traverse City dialed it up in the second half and we matched them in the intensity tonight and outplayed them.  Evan Sysko‘s goal was one of those highlight reel plays and it really provided a huge lift for our team.”
