Varsity Baseball Uses Big Fifth Inning To Take Down Gladstone, 11-6

The MSHS Varsity Baseball Team used a six-run fifth inning to overpower Gladstone in a GNC match-up played in Marquette on Thursday (5/20/21).

MSHS trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Peter VandenAvond homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.  VandenAvond led Marquette by going 2-3 at the plate with two HRs and four RBIs in the game.

Brady Wright earned the win on the mound for MSHS.  He went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out one.  Justin Wenk started the game for Marquette and lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out five.

MSHS racked up 12 total hits on the day.  Jacob Knauss and Brady Wright both had three hits in the game with Peter VandenAvond adding two.

The team will be back in action today (5/21/21) when they host Sault Ste. Marie for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader at the North Fields in Marquette.
