Varsity Boys Soccer Earns Shutout Win Over Kingsford In Home Opener

Varsity Boys Soccer (3-0-1)

Marquette 6, Kingsford 0

The MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer Team hosted Kingsford in their home opener on Thursday evening and came away with a 6-0 victory.  The win marks the third straight shutout for Marquette as well as an impressive stretch where MSHS has scored 20 goals over the past three contests.

Marquette sophomore Max Dawson converted a penalty kick near the 10-minute mark of the first half to open the scoring.  Sophomore Nick Asmus scored from a Connor Johnson (senior) pass to make it 2-0.  Dawson then finished the first half scoring going end-to-end after taking a pass from junior defender Owen Goymerac.

Senior Liam Jeevar did not face any shots in the first half net duties.

In the second half, sophomore Evan Sysko put MSHS up by four on a combination pass from Brett Wittler and Nick Lindberg, both seniors.  Junior Hayden Byma converted another penalty kick before the evening’s scoring finished with a Lindberg goal.  That goal was assisted by freshman Ethan Sandstrom.  Jeevar faced two shots in the second half.

From Head Coach Dan Salmon:

“Having just played Kingsford two nights ago, we knew they would be playing us hard but our guys stepped it up as well.  Good team play tonight.”

Marquette goalkeeper Liam Jeevar makes one of his two saves in the second half.
