Varsity Boys Soccer Gets 8-1 Win Over Sault Ste. Marie On Senior Night

The MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer Team hosted Sault Ste. Marie on Friday (10/9/20) and picked up a 8-1 win.  With the victory, Marquette improves to 8-0-1 on the season.

First half goals were scored by sophomore Ezra Pickard, senior Brett Wittler, junior Nick Linberg, and sophomore Nick Asmus.  Assists were credited to junior Axel Vermaat on the first two goals, Asmus, and sophomore Max Dawson respectively.  Senior Liam Jeevar tended net in the first half not facing any shots.

Junior Michael Poggi scored the fifth goal and first of the second half on a penalty kick.  Junior Camden Larson scored the sixth goal with an assist going to Wittler.  Ben Gostomski a senior, scored the seventh goal assisted again by Wittler and Dawson finished the scoring with another assist going to Vermaat.  Junior Harrison Anthos tended net in the second half facing two shots.

“It was a special night and the team really came together in honoring the seniors on their last home game.  I am really proud of them all. Very fitting though for senior Brett Wittler to have the best game of his season tonight.  He really stepped it up.”

Friday’s game marked the last regular season home game for six members of the Class of 2021.  Congratulations to these soccer student-athletes and the success that they have achieved while playing for MSHS!
