Figure Skating Concludes 2020-21 Season at Michigan High School State Championships

Over spring break, the MSHS Figure Skating Team competed at the Michigan High School State Finals that were held in Dearborn, MI.  After a season filled with virtual meets, the in-person format of the state finals as a welcomed positive change for the group to end its season on.

Day 1 of the competition featured the individual events of Artistic, Dance and Freeskate.  MSHS performed very well in each event (top performances listed below) and came away with 56 total points, which was good for fourth place overall (out of 28 teams).  Kalamazoo Area claimed first place with 81 points, followed by Divine Child (77 points), PCEP (83 points), Marquette, and Midland (55 points) to round out the top five.

Top Individual Performances:

  • Cassie Davis – 9th Place Freeskate, 1st Place Dance (State Champion)
  • Samantha Heikkila – 6th Place Artistic, 2nd Place Freeskate
  • Jamie Hendrickson – 5th Place Artistic, 3rd Place Freeskate
  • Paige Hendrickson – 9th Place Dance, 6th Place Freeskate
  • Olivia Klump – 5th Place Freeskate, 1st Place Artistic (State Champion)
  • Addie Ollila – 7th Place Artistic, 5th Place Freeskate
  • Regina Olson – 4th place Dance, 4th Place Freeskate

    Day 2 of the championships featured the team competition.  Again, MSHS competed well on the day to turn in an 11th place finish overall.  Below is the breakdown of the event and how MSHS fared in each category:

  • Jumps – 13th Place – Addie Ollila, Cassie Davis, Paige Hendrickson
  • Moves – 2nd Place – Samantha Heikkila, Paige Hendrickson, Cassie Davis
  • Spins – 13th Place – Jamie Hendrickson, Paige Hendrickson, Samantha Heikkila, Cassie Davis
