From MSHS Girls Tennis Head Coach, Karl Thomsen:

  • “Hats off to Escanaba.  I would definitely say they came in as the favorites and lived up to the billing.  Seven of the eight flights featured Escanaba in the finals and they ended up winning three of those matches, including a nail biter at #1 doubles.  As far as the Marquette girls go, I was super proud of all of their performances.  At four singles, Natalie Deneau battled the eventual champ in a back-and-forth semi-final match. The biggest highlight of the day for us was our freshmen doubles team of Payton Bullock and Payton Pleaugh taking home a GNC title with a 3rd set tiebreak win. I can tell you they had a lot of nerves kicking in the 3rd set, but they really settled down, had some fun out there, and brought home a well deserved championship.”
