The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the first ever AVCA Best and Brightest Awards for high school senior student-athletes.  The AVCA Best & Brightest Award is an award meant to honor individual high school senior student-athletes who excel on and off the court.

To be eligible for the Best and Brightest Award, senior student-athletes must have earned at least a 3.0 Unweighted/3.5Weighted GPA (or the equivalent, if using a different GPA scale) during their junior year AND play in 50% of their varsity team’s sets during their senior season.

Some additional tiers of recognition apply:

  • AVCA Best and Brightest First Team: 3.7 Unweighted GPA/4.2 Weighted GPA or above
  • AVCA Best and Brightest Second Team: 3.3 Unweighted GPA/3.8 Weighted GPA or above
  • AVCA Best and Brightest Third Team: 3.0 Unweighted GPA/3.5 Weighted GPA or above

After nominations were submitted from high schools around the country last week, MSHS had two of its volleyball student-athletes selected to receive the award.  Senior Maria Millado was named to the  AVCA Best and Brightest First Team with fellow senior Seiler Hruska being named to the AVCA Best and Brightest Second Team.

In all, 974 student-athletes from around the country were selected to receive the AVCA Best and Brightest Award.  Click here for the full release from the AVCA.
