MSHS Alpine Skiiers Have Strong Showing At MHSAA State Finals; Maddy Stern Crowned State Champion in Girls GS

Three members of the MSHS Boys and Girls Alpine Ski Teams competed at the 2022 MHSAA Division 1 State Finals yesterday (February 28) that were held at Boyne Mountain.

Sam Dehlin (freshman), Anna Grzelak (junior) and Maddy Stern (senior) each qualified as individual competitors at the MHSAA Regional Meet held at Cannonsburg Mountain on February 15.  All three skiiers competed in both the Slalom and Giant Slalom (GS) events and represented MSHS extremely well.

In the Girls GS, Maddy Stern was crowned as the individual state champion by claiming the two-run event with a time of 1:06.55.  Anna Grzelak turned in a Top-15 performance by finishing in 11th Place with a time of 1:08.77

Stern then backed-up her individual title in the GS with a Top-10 finish in the Girls Slalom event.  She turned in an 8th Place result with a time of 1:06.64.

On the boys side, Sam Dehlin continued the consistent skiing that he has shown all year by turning in Top-5 performances in both the Boys Slalom and Boys GS events.  Dehlin first finished fourth in the Boys GS with a time of 1:03.24 before completing his day with a fifth place result in the Boys Slalom with a time of 1:01.25.

In the team events, Traverse City West  claimed the Boys Division 1 title with Traverse City Central winning the Girls Division 1 championship.
