Varsity Boys Soccer Bests Hayward With 3-0 Shutout Win

MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer (13-2-1)

Marquette 3, Hayward 0

The MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer Team traveled to Minocqua, Wisconsin on Saturday (9/17/22) to take part in a two-game showcase hosted by Lakeland Union High School.

After gaining a shootout win over Lakeland Union in their first game, Marquette closed out the day with a 3-0 shutout victory over Hayward High School.

Ethan Sandstrom put MSHS up 1-0 in the first half on a goal assisted by Ezra Pickard.  The team would carry that 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Isaac Johnson then made the score 2-0 in favor of MSHS with Mason Bocklund providing the assist.

Evan Sysko finished the scoring with a tally coming off a Pickard corner kick.

Goaltender James Barch faced one shot in each half.

From MSHS Head Coach, Dan Salmon:

  • “This was a tough game for us having no recovery time after the Lakeland Union game (contests were back-to-back).  We were able to use the depth of our roster to get the win.  I am proud of the team coming away with two victories this weekend.”

Next Up:

  • The Varsity Boys Soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 20, when they host Iron Mountain in a 5:00 p.m. game from the MSHS Stadium.  The contest will also serve as “senior night” and see four members of the Class of 2023 recognized prior to the game.
