Varsity Boys Soccer Completes Downstate Sweep With 5-2 Win At TC Central

Marquette 5, TC Central 2

Varsity Boys Soccer (4-3-1)

The Marquette varsity boys soccer team finished a sweep of downstate teams this weekend by beating Traverse City Central 5-2 on Saturday after defeating Petoskey on Friday afternoon.

Team captain Trevor Salmon started the scoring off of a header that was assisted by Max Dawson.  Dawson then made the score 2-0 in favor of MSHS off of pass from Salmon.

TC Central had cut the lead to one before Salmon scored again, this time from a Mack Vezina corner kick with seven seconds remaining in the first half.

Marquette then scored again early in the second half off of another Dawson goal, assisted by Salmon, to make it 4-1.

While TC Central scored with 12:00 to go in the game to narrow the margin at 4-2, the Redmen responded off of ensuing kickoff when Salmon completed the hat-trick by catching the TC Central goalkeeper too far out from his net.

Harrison Anthos got the win in net for Marquette and had four saves on the afternoon.

“This was a really great team effort on both days with some fantastic play at our forward positions”, said MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer Head Coach Dan Menze.  “We made these two games very easy on ourselves by having everyone give it their all from start to finish.
