Varsity Boys Soccer Makes It 12 Straight Wins With 7-1 Win Over Houghton

Marquette 7, Houghton 1

On Saturday, September 11, the MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer team hosted Houghton at the Kaufman Sports Complex.  Marquette used a quick start to distance themselves from the Gremlins to come away with a 7-1 victory.

MSHS came out firing in the contest by scoring three goals in a five-minute span early in the first half.  Isaac Johnson got the scoring started off of an Ezra Pickard corner kick.  John Weber then scored from a Zane Phillips free kick.  Just 10 seconds later, Max Dawson intercepted the ensuing kickoff and scored an unassisted goal for a 3-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Dawson scored his second goal from an assist by Hayden BymaEthan Sandstrom then made it 5-0 from a Dawson assist.

Houghton would cut the lead to 5-1 with a penalty kick before Pickard scored two more goals with assists from Johnson and Byma for a 7-1 final score.

Harrison Anthos stopped three shots in net for MSHS.

  • “It was really good effort today and we executed the game plan flawlessly. Offensively, we had five different guys score and five guys with assists, which is better than we expected.”

Next Up:

  • The Varsity Boys Soccer team will be idle during the week before traveling to Minocqua, WI on Saturday, 9/17/21, to participate in a four-team showcase hosted by Lakeland Union High School.  Marquette’s first game of the event will be at 10:00 a.m. EST, followed by a second game at 12:00 p.m. EST.
