Varsity Boys Soccer Starts Season With Three Wins At TC Central Quad

The Marquette varsity boys soccer team opened their season on the road at a quad event hosted by Traverse City Central on Friday, 8/20/21.    Other participating teams were Manistee and Boyne City high schools.

Game 1:  Marquette 2, Traverse City Central 1

  • Marquette started the quad tournament with the host Traverse City Central and earned a hard fought victory by the score of 2-1.  Junior Max Dawson got the scoring started four minutes into the game off a Nick Lindberg pass.  TCC answered with their own goal right before halftime.   Dawson then scored his second goal off another Lindberg assist with five minutes remaining to seal the victory.  Junior Isaac Johnson tended net making 8 saves.

Game 2:  Marquette 8, Manistee 0

  • In the second game of the day, Marquette got a 8-0 mercy victory over Manistee High School.  Junior Lamb Ngafeeson started the scoring off on a goal assisted by Axel Vermaat and Ethan Sandstrom.  Dawson then scored twice before halftime with both goals assisted by Vermaat with additional help from Zane Phillips on one of the tallies.  Second half scores came from Ezra Pickard assisted by Dawson, Enzo Stabile assisted by Pickard, Dawson from Lindberg, Vermaat from Ngafeeson, and Vermaat from Evan Sysko. Senior Harrison Anthos and Johnson shared net duties and did not face any shots.

Game 3:  Marquette 8, Boyne City 1

  • In game three, Marquette faced Boyne City and won by the final score of 8-1. Dawson notched his second hat trick of the day with assists going to Lindberg, Sandstrom, and Johnson.  Other goal scorers for Marquette included Pickard from Dawson, Lindberg from Pickard, Sandstrom from Ngafeeson, Johnson from Ngafeeson, and Vermaat unassisted.  Anthos tended net making 1 save off of two breakaways.
