Jessica Gooch and Kaleb Chipelewski Selected As November Student-Athletes of the Month

Marquette Senior High School, along with Superiorland Kiwanis, are proud to announce that Jessica Gooch (volleyball) and Kaleb Chipelewski (boys soccer) have been named as the Student-Athletes of the Month for November 2023.

Jessica Gooch is a member of the Class of 2024 at MSHS and has just completed her senior season as captain of the MSHS Varsity Volleyball team.

In two years of experience as a middle blocker, Jessica has certainly left her mark on the MSHS Volleyball program. This season, Jessica helped lead the team to a 21-13-2 overall record as well as a 6-2 mark in the Great Northern Conference (GNC) that included a 2nd place finish at the Marquette Invite (9/23/23) and Silver Division Championship at the Bay City Mitten Bay Classic (9/9/23). On the year, Jessica was the team leader in blocks (60) and hitting consistency (.258 attack percentage) while being second on the team in kills (151).

Jessica’s high-level performance during her junior and senior seasons earned her All-GNC First Team and All-Region honors from the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association during each of those campaigns. She was also named as the team’s Most Improved Player during the 2022 season.

Jessica is a two-sport varsity student-athlete and is looking forward to her third year as a member of the MSHS Varsity Girls Soccer team this spring. In the classroom, she owns a 3.26 cumulative GPA and has been a regular fixture on the honor roll.

Upon graduating from MSHS, Jessica plans on attending Northern Michigan University beginning in Fall 2024 to pursue a degree in Sports Science and Athletic Training.

Kaleb Chipelewski is a junior at MSHS and was a member of this year’s MSHS Varsity Boys Soccer team.

The 2023 boys soccer season saw Kaleb assume a veteran leadership role as it marked his third as a member of the varsity team. After claiming U.P. Championships as a freshman and sophomore, both he and the team were eager to take the program to new heights with MHSAA postseason eligibility being restored for the 2023 soccer season.

That goal was accomplished after the team turned in an overall record of 13-5 on the season, which included capturing a 2023 MHSAA Division 2 District title after defeating Petoskey in a thrilling 11-round shootout. On the year, Kaleb accumulated 21 goals (6th in state), 9 assists (16th in state) for 51 points (8th in state). Kaleb’s play saw him recognized by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association (MIHSSCA) with All-State Honorable Mention, All-Region and All-District team accolades.

In addition to soccer, Kaleb has been a two-year member of both the boys basketball and boys golf programs. During the 2023 boys golf season, Kaleb placed 2nd at the Great Northern Conference Championships while also finishing 4th at the MHSAA U.P. Golf Finals.

In the classroom, Kaleb owns a 4.08 cumulative GPA to put him as a three-year inclusion on the honor roll and member of the National Honor Society. He also serves as a junior class representative on the MSHS Student Council and member of the MSHS Newspaper Club.
